What happens when you ignore repairing your roofing?
You probably know that roofing can be quite expensive. While it isn’t cheap, quality roofing products protect your home and handle storms without being damaged. However, every so often, your home should undergo a roof replacement. Unfortunately, however, not everyone follows the recommendation of having their roof replaced every decade or so. There are some consequences of ignoring roofing replacement instructions. Here are a few of them:
Leakages
If a roof has not been replaced when it should be, it becomes much more susceptible to damage and leakage. The granules in shingles can loosen up and leave the roofing vulnerable to severe leakage. These leakages can lead to further damage inside a home.
Mold Growth
Along with leakages and moisture pouring through, there’s also the threat of mold growth in those areas. When moisture gathers and leaks through roofing, it opens the door for mold to grow. As you know, mold growth occurs when moisture gathers in a warm and humid area. As such, the moisture that gets leaked into a home’s ceiling makes for the perfect breeding ground for mold. While mold growth isn’t the ultimate damage to your roofing, it’s unhealthy and should be avoided at all costs.
Higher energy bills
When your roofing is left in place longer than it should be, it begins to lose its strength as proper insultation. As a result, during the colder months the temperature inside your home will be lower, while they’ll be higher during the warmer months. This means that your HVAC system will have to work twice as hard. Ultimately, you’ll end up spending more on energy bills trying to maintain your home’s temperature.
All three of the issues mentioned above can be easily avoided by simply having your roofing replaced when it should be and not delaying any repairs that need to be made.
